Melbourne

                                                     MELBOURNE

Melbourne is the second biggest Australian city with population more than 3.7 million people. It is the capital of Victoria state.

“The Economist” magazine twice acknowledged Melbourne “the best city for living” because of its climate, prices, culture, high-qualified medicine and other.

There are three offices of Australian corporations in Melbourne: Elstra, BHP Billiton and National Australia Bank, and also offices of many companies, whose stocks are available at the Australian Stock Exchange.

Many worldwide sports championships are held in Melbourne, including Australian motor races Formula – 1, tennis tournament Australian Open, equestrian gallops Melbourne Cup and final championship of Australian football AFL Grand Final. The Olympic Games were held in Melbourne in 1956 and also Commonwealth Games in 2006.

Melbourne is a fast-growing city. In the last few years a lot of sights appeared here, for example:

1)      Federation Square

2)      New buildings on the South bank

3)      Docklands

4)      South Cross Station

5)      QV quarter

Melbourne isn’t alike European cities, for example, Paris, London, Moscow or Peter. It is an amazing city. A small in sizes business center consists completely of sky-scrapers, where the monuments of architecture huddle between. The most beautiful district, Southgate, which  adjoins directly to City, is the visiting-card of Melbourne.

Another part of Melbourne – it is called Greater Melbourne – consists of 1 or 2-floored private houses. You can go there by car and you will not see any buildings higher than two floors! Due to that Melbourne, and also Sydney, sometimes are called “two big villages”.

Melbourne sightseeing.  In Melbourne you can:

1)      Go to South bank, watch the biggest casino in Australia and fire flames, which light up every night;

2)      Drill the streets and also have dinner and fun on:

a)      Lygon

b)     Brunswick

c)      Victoria road

d)     Chapel street

e)      Auckland street

3)      Go shopping in the center of Burke street and in Chadstone, Queen Victoria Market.

4)      Climb the Rialto Towers and watch the Melbournovka village

5)      Visit the Old Melbourne Prison.

At the first acquaintance with Melbourne it is impossible not to notice another feature - nasty weather, which is cause for the great number of jokes and causticities.

A climate here indeed destroys myths about warm and sunny Australia - the sky is often tightened with clouds,  temperature in winter does not go down below zero, but due to piercing wind and bad warmth isolation of apartments even the habitants of Siberia say that they froze more strongly in Melbourne, than at home.

But if you don’t like the weather there – wait , and you’ll certainly like it, because it’s changeable!
